Spring is right around the corner and soon cigar enthusiasts will be spending more time outside. Springtime is the reawakening of life and your cigar should match that attitude. Here are my picks, some new and some classics, for spring 2020.
Alec Bradley Filthy Hooligan is a perennial favorite around St. Patrick’s Day. The 2020 Filthy Hooligan features a cool barber pole wrapper intertwining a shamrock green Candela leaf with a dark Nicaraguan Jalapa leaf with a blend of Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and filler from Panama and Honduras. Earthy with notes of coffee and cream, the Filthy Hooligan is the perfect accompaniment to a pint of Guinness.
AJ Fernandez Enclave Broadleaf features decadent Nicaraguan fillers from Estelí and Jalapa and, for the first time, blanketed by a U.S. Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper for a flavor profile of earth, cedar, salt and black pepper with an unexpected sweet, creamy finish. For those who prefer a full bodied cigar, this is a delight. It is definitely a cigar to be enjoyed with others around the campfire.
Ashton Classic is an iconic Dominican-made brand blended by legendary cigar-maker Carlito Fuente. Ashton is handcrafted in a variety of classic shapes and sizes with a golden blond Connecticut Shade wrapper and a creamy blend of premium aged Dominican binder and filler tobaccos. Notes of toasted almonds, cashews, and coffee with cream accompany soft spices and a touch of sweetness. Enjoy Ashton Classic on your front porch while watching the grass grow.
Eastern Standard by Caldwell utilizes an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper incorporated with a Brazilian Mata Fina (hybrid seed) wrapper packed with rare, aged Grade A Dominican Criollo ’98, Dominican Corojo Ligero, Nicaraguan Habano fillers and a Habana Dominican binder. Eastern Standard is mild to medium bodied and has a smooth flavor profile with notes of soft leather, spice, and cocoa with subtle hints of pepper and a creamy, velvety finish.
Macanudo Café Portofino is a classic cigar for the golf course. The blend is mild and mellow with a recipe of filler from the Dominican Republic and binder from San Andres, Mexico embraced by a light Connecticut wrapper. Macanudo Portofino Café delivers smooth, mellow, and classic flavor. The protective tube easily slips in your golf bag.
Montecristo Classic is a blend of the highest-grade Connecticut shade wrappers and specially aged Dominican binder and long filler tobaccos. The very smooth smoke has a savory nuttiness with a hint of coffee with cream. It’s light enough to refresh you on warm days but flavorful enough to make you savor the moment.
The Rocky Patel 1999 Vintage Line showcases the oldest true Connecticut shade-grown wrapper on the market. One of its sizes is the iconic Perfecto, a Cuban Vitola which showcases this mild cigar producing silky smoke. In the Perfecto format, RP 1999 Vintage is a good spring cigar with a shorter stem and burns faster during your morning walk.
Undercrown Shade is a creation of Dominican Criollo '98 Nicaraguan Corojo and Criollo long fillers, a Sumatran binder, and flavorful Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper. There are complex flavors of cream, nuts, honey and spice. Indulge in a Pinot Grigio and an Undercrown Shade on your favorite patio while soaking up a picture perfect day.
Any of these cigars will satisfy you as you take in the beautiful weather of the spring season. If you’re a cigar connoisseur, I recommend that you give all of them a try. Find these and other Spring inspiring cigars at fantastic prices at elcigarshop.com. Cheers!
