It’s that time of year when Cigar Aficionado Magazine and any number of Cigar Mags and Websites come out with their best of the best. Here are the Top Cigars of 2018, in alphabetical order, selected by the El Cigar Shop tasting panel. We hope you enjoy our picks as much as we did!

AJ Fernandez Enclave Broadleaf Robusto- This is the newest addition to the Enclave line of cigars that was originally developed by AJ and his father, Ismael. The cigar is the first in the line to utilize a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper that is packed with Nicaraguan filler and binder. The Enclave Broadleaf showcases an exciting combination of earthiness, nuts, and chocolate that play on the palate. A full-bodied winner from AJ!

Alec Bradley Prensado Lost Art Gran Toro- This cigar features a high-quality blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos completed in an oily Honduran Corojo wrapper. This smoke creates a flavor profile of creamy leather, oak, and plenty of coffee notes. An excellent tweak on the original Prensado blend!

Brick House Double Connecticut Mighty Mighty- This is the latest endeavor from J.C. Newman. This value cigar is a blend of U.S Connecticut shade-grown wrapper and a broadleaf binder.  Nicaraguan long fillers help contribute to the flavors of spice, cedar, buttered toast and delicate pepper that are accompanied by a slightly sweet base. An excellent smoke at an excellent price!

Joya de Nicaragua Joya Silver Toro- This 2018 release celebrates the company’s 50th anniversary. The box-pressed beauty is a modern blend of Nicaraguan long-fillers, a Mexican San Andres binder, and a sweet Ecuadoran Oscuro Habano leaf wrapper. A medium to full-bodied blend that delivers multifaceted notes of creamy caramel, cinnamon spice, chocolate, and a touch of sweet cherry. An excellent new addition to the Joya line of fine cigars!

My Father La Opulencia Toro- This cigar features a dark, San Andrés Mexican wrapper that the Garcias categorize as a Rosado Oscuro. There are two different Nicaraguan binders, one Criollo and one Corojo, and a combination of various Cuban-seed fillers. This full-bodied cigar has a refined combination of smooth and creamy chocolate, cocoa with notes of anise and nougat. It was also selected by Cigar Aficionado as their #2 Cigar of the Year!

Oliva Serie O Nicaraguan Habano Puro Robusto- This stick is the best bang for your buck. This puros special blend has hints of spice, cedar, and rich Nicaraguan tobaccos with notes of chocolate, cherries, and honey. An awesome smoke that has been around for quite some time but is always worth returning to!

Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series Soberano Natural- This is the first square-shaped tubo Padrón has introduced to its premium collection. The 1964 Anniversary blend is delivered in an elegantly detailed gold square tube featuring cigar maestro Jose Padron's signature. The box-pressed Robusto delivers notes of black pepper, sweet apricot, and mocha. Delicious! It’s also available in a Toro size called the Presidente.

Perdomo Habano Bourbon Barrel-Aged Epicure Sungrown- This cigar is a harmonic blend of an aged Sun Grown wrapper, which is then cured for an additional ten more months in a bourbon barrel. The Toro sized smoke is finished with tobaccos from the Nicaragua regions of Estelí, Jalapa, and Condega. The result of all this time and caring is a cigar rich with notes of spice, espresso, vanillas, coupled with walnut and a touch of a whiskey. A true delight!

Punch Diablo Scamp- This a brand new stick by General Cigar and master blender AJ Fernandez. It is the first Punch cigar to be produced at Tabacalera A.J. Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua in Estelí. Punch Diablo is sporting a new, bolder look with a black band and red accents that really bring out the dark color and toothy texture of the Ecuadorian Sumatra Oscuro wrapper.  The blend contains a Connecticut Broadleaf six-year-aged binder and four-year-aged fillers from Honduras and Nicaragua. The result is a cigar that will appeal to the full strength, full-bodied cigar enthusiast with intense flavors of wood, earth, black licorice, and leather. A knockout of a Punch!

Rocky Patel Fifteenth Anniversary Toro- It’s been eight years since Rocky Patel released his 15th Anniversary cigar, but Patel decided to go with an updated metallic silver band and packaging in 2018. The blend is the same Ecuadorian wrapper covering Nicaraguan tobaccos with the result being a medium-to-full-bodied cigar aromatic with notes of nuts, chocolate, oak, and vanilla. We love revisiting this tasty smoke time and time again.

We at El Cigar hope that you will, or have enjoyed many of our picks for 2018. Be assured that 2019 will bring many more exciting releases to our online and retail store.
