Dominican Big Leaguer is a young boutique cigar manufacturer with a factory located in the small municipality of Tamboril, Santiago on the Dominican Republic. Tamboril is considered by many as the "World Capital of Cigars", housing more cigar factories and rollers than anywhere else in the world.
According to Cigar Aficionado, 44% of the world's most traded cigars come from the Dominican Republic. Tamboril is the epicenter to the cigar industry’s biggest names and top rollers such as La Aurora, La Flor Dominicana, Tabacalera Palma, and PDR Cigar.
About Dominican Big Leaguer (DBL)
Dominican Big Leaguer (DBL) is the brainchild of Francisco Almonte. Francisco started working with tobacco alongside his father at the age of 7 and by the time he was 12 years old, he was rolling cigars. Francisco’s father, also named Francisco Almonte, owned a cigar factory that produced the El Rey cigar, a very popular cigar in the Dominican Republic for much of the 1970s, 80s and early 90s.
Tobacco quickly became his passion and creating fine premium cigars became his mission. Francisco had the rare opportunity to work under two of the world’s most famous cigars makers; Carlos Fuente (Arturo Fuente Cigars) and Litto Gomez (La Flor Dominicana Cigars). This opportunity allowed Almonte the chance to build his business.
Founded in 2013, Francisco’s DBL now owns a tobacco farm, cigar factory, and cigar box factory in the Dominican Republic. He employs more than 75 men and women throughout his company. In 2018 Dominican Big Leaguer Cigars paid tribute to its founder’s 35 years in the tobacco industry even though the company had only been around for five years with the release of DBL 35th Anniversary.
DBL by Francisco Almonte uses high-grade tobacco from top farms around the world including the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru. DBL has been growing their own tobacco in the Dominican Republic since 2013. The tobacco undergoes a meticulous curing and fermentation process. The torcedores are highly skilled with years of experience. They roll the finest traditional DBL cigars as well as those with unique shapes and sizes such as the one of a kind DBL Baseball Bat.
DBL Extra Viejo is a premium cigar from Dominican Big Leaguer. The cigar sports a dark, oily Maduro Mexican Arapiraca wrapper, high grade Brazilian and Dominican filler and a Dominican Binder. The exotic, unique blend creates a medium to full-bodied experience with savory notes and peppery spice. DBL Extra Viejo Maduro Prensado comes in your choice of Gorda, Robusto, or Toro vitolas.
DBL Amarillo is Francisco Almonte’s first use of a true U.S Connecticut wrapper. The Amarillo (Spanish for yellow) is rum barrel-aged and the U.S Connecticut wrapper hugs Dominican binder and filler harvested from Almonte’s farm in Santiago, DR. Mild in strength but bold in flavor, DBL Amarillo produces notes of sweet buttery cream, cinnamon, and hints of maple and chocolate.
El Cigar shop is currently carrying a limited release version of the Amarillo: the Fancy Belicoso, This is a box-pressed belicoso with a barber pole wrapper featuring the Connecticut Shade and Mexican Maduro combination. These cigars are extraordinary and going fast!
