87th IPCPR 2019 - Part 2

87th IPCPR 2019 - Part 2

The 87th IPCPR Convention and Trade Show was held in Las Vegas from June 28 to July 2. Here are some of the highlights (continued).

I was at the 2019 IPCPR Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas at the Sands Expo Center and there were many new releases, collaborations, anniversary cigars, and limited editions to explore and sample. Due to FDA regulations that make it more difficult to create new products, one would think there would not be too many new offerings.

But, there were plenty of new products, even more than last year. Some stood out more than others. Here is my list, alphabetically, of my favorites so far. I’ve also included affordable alternatives currently available at El Cigar Shop.

AJ Fernandez

Días de Gloria-“Days of Glory”- is a tribute to the romantic, pre-revolution period in Cuba. The Cuban-style Nicaraguan Puro consists of tobacco from four of Fernandez’s oldest farms in Nicaragua. It comes in 4 sizes and will be in regular production as of September.

Alternatives: AJ Fernandez Enclave and AJ Fernandez New World Puro

Alec Bradley

Alec and Bradley, sons of Alan Rubin, have teamed up with Ernesto Perez-Carrillo for the new Alec Bradley Gatekeeper. The Gatekeeper is a combination of Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and filler from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.

Alternatives: Alec Bradley Post Embargo and Alec Bradley Prensado

Cohiba

General Cigar Company unveiled the Cohiba Spectre, a limited-edition Cohiba with a suggested retail price of $90 per cigar, the most expensive Cohiba General has ever made.

Alternatives: Anything under $90 in the Cohiba line up

Drew Estate

Undercrown Shade Suprema is a 6 x 54 perfecto with the same blend as the other sizes in the Undercrown Shade series. An Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper blankets an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and a filler of Dominican Criollo ’98, Nicaraguan Corojo and Criollo tobaccos.

Alternative: Undercrown Shade Gran Toro

La Palina Cigars

La Palina is offering a value-cigar named The Double Digit. It is enclosed in an Ecuadorian wrapper and blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco, as well as another tobacco of undisclosed origin.

Alternatives: La Palina Nicaragua Connecticut and La Palina Mr. Sam

Macanudo

Macanudo Heritage Nuevo is a limited-edition cigar with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. It’s the first time that a Macanudo has ever been wrapped in a Connecticut seed cover leaf from Ecuador and it will come in three sizes.

Alternatives: Macanudo Baron de Rothschild Café and Macanudo Ascots

My Father Cigars

My Father La Promesa- “The Promise”- refers to a promise that company patriarch José “Pepin” Garcia made to honor his family’s tobacco heritage and success after he left Cuba. The blend consists of Nicaraguan tobacco and an Ecuadorian wrapper that was grown on the Garcia family farms. La Promesa comes in five sizes.

Alternatives: My Father Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial and My Father The Judge Box Pressed

Rocky Patel

Rocky Patel Aged, Limited and Rare (ALR) Second Edition is medium to full-bodied, box-pressed and cloaked in dark, Mexican San Andrés wrappers.

Alternatives: Rocky Patel 15th Anniversary and 1990 Vintage
