How to Eliminate Cigar Smoke From Your Car

Even the best premium cigars can leave an unpleasant stale scent in closed environments, but learning how to eliminate cigar smoke from your car helps!

Next to fishing, there is nothing I love more than lighting up a premium hand-rolled cigar on a road trip. It’s soothing and passes time on the long journey.

There are many of you that don’t smoke cigars in your car for several reasons. Perhaps it is due to your family or just the plain fact that the lingering odor of cigar smoke is truly unappealing. Even the best premium cigars can leave an unpleasant stale scent in closed environments.

If you choose to smoke in your vehicle, there are a few steps to prevent, mask, and eliminate the foul odors which may result. Even with my convertible top down, my car still smells like an old cigar bar.

Opening your front windows helps lets some of the smoke out but the smoke still wafts to the back of your car. If you have back windows open them at least a crack.

Driving with the heat or air conditioner should be avoided because the smoke is sucked into the vents and lingers there (even with the windows open). If you must have either one on, aim the vents to the floor of your car.

An expensive option is to purchase a car with leather seats. It should be common knowledge that cloth seats absorb more of the smoke.

To hide the odor I prefer a couple of items. The first being an air freshener that you clip on the vents of your car. They last longer than the tree fresheners and come in an array of scents.

For a quick fix, spray fresheners and dryer sheets will temporarily mask the scent. Also spraying white vinegar on the car carpet, mats, and upholstery, and then letting it dry, will help veil the stench.

Eliminating odor completely isn’t the easiest thing to do. You can try upholstery and carpet cleaning products but having your car professionally detailed and a professional ozone treatment is the best way to go.

To keep your car odor free, there are various air purifiers and ionizers on the market. Odor bombs not only mask the smell - they destroy it. A plug-in ozonation system is one of the best solutions to keep your car odor free.

Just plug it in your lighter or accessory outlet and you can finally toss that tacky pine tree freshener!
