Dominican Big Leaguer, a small boutique cigar maker with a factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic's Tamboril municipality is a new company. Many consider Tamboril to be the "World Capital of Cigars", as it has more factories and cigar rollers in this small municipality than anywhere else on the planet.

Cigar Aficionado reports that 44% of all cigars traded in the world come from the Dominican Republic. Tamboril is home to some of the biggest names in the cigar industry, including La Aurora, La Flor Dominicana Tabacalera Palma and PDR Cigar.

Dominican Big Leaguer

Francisco Almonte is the man behind Dominican Big Leaguer. Francisco began working with tobacco at age 7 alongside his father and was rolling cigars by the time he turned 12. Francisco Almonte's father owned a factory in the Dominican Republic that made the El Rey, a popular cigar during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

His passion for tobacco and his desire to create fine premium cigars quickly took over. Francisco had a rare opportunity to learn from two of the most famous cigar makers in the world, Carlos Fuente (Arturo Fuente Cigars), and Litto Gomez(La Flor Dominicana Cigars). Almonte was able to grow his business with this opportunity.

Francisco's DBL, founded in 2013, now owns tobacco farms, a cigar factory and a cigar box factory in Dominican Republic. More than 75 people work for him in his company. Dominican Big Leaguer Cigars released DBL 35th anniversary in 2018 to honor its founder for 35 years of tobacco industry experience, even though it had only existed for five years.

DBL by Francisco Almonte is a premium tobacco brand that uses top-quality tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic as well as Brazil, Ecuador Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. DBL has grown their own tobacco since 2013 in the Dominican Republic. The tobacco is subjected to a rigorous curing and fermenting process. Torcedores have years of experience and are highly-skilled. They roll traditional DBL cigars, as well as unique shapes and sizes like the DBL Baseball Bat.

DBL Extra Viejo by Dominican Big Leaguer is a premium brand of cigar. The cigar features a dark, oily Maduro Mexican Arapiraca Wrapper, high-grade Brazilian and Dominican Filler, and a Dominican binder. The exotic blend produces a full-bodied medium-bodied smoke with peppery notes and savory notes. DBL Extra Viejo Maduro Prensado is available in Gorda Robusto or Toro vitolas.

DBL Amarillo was Francisco Almonte’s first attempt to use a Connecticut-style wrapper. The Amarillo, which is Spanish for yellow, has been aged in rum barrels. The U.S. Connecticut wrapper hugs Dominican filler and binder harvested from Almonte’s farm located in Santiago. DBL Amarillo is mild in strength, but has a bold flavor. It produces notes of buttery cream and cinnamon with hints of chocolate and maple.
