When it comes to sought-after cigars, there are very few from the Ashton brand that are as sought-after as the Ashton VSG Spellbound and the rest of the VSG line. And it makes sense that this would be the case; they’re quality cigars that regularly review well, and unlike some quality cigars, they manage to consistently deliver on that quality.
This is partly because they are produced by Arturo Fuente. Arturo Fuente produces many of the Ashton cigar lines, and this one is also their product, although it is a much more flavorful cigar that is produced in much smaller quantities than most of their other cigars. The cigar starts with the filler and binder, of course, and in the case of the Ashton VSG Spellbound, that is provided by tobacco often from the Dominican Republic, aged for a few years, but in some cases the tobacco is sourced from other places, so long as it meets the standards and the flavor profile of the VSG line. The wrapper, though, is the real prize here, and it shows where the cigar gets its name from; an Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper, slightly oily, is wrapped around the filler and binder to create a cigar that is consistently loved.
The Cigar, when smoked, has a peaty and peppery flavor, with a creamy texture to it and enough oil to produce beautiful and plentiful smoke. The combination creates a cigar that is sought-after and that is extremely flavorful, a prize that will go well with a glass of fine scotch or that will serve as a delicious treat all on its own.
