- The Rocky Patel 1990 Vintage is a medium-bodied cigar leaning more toward the milder side with a nutty, caramel essence. This cigar is highlighted by a 12-year-old Honduran Broadleaf wrapper that has softened in strength over the years, yet gained in complexity and flavor.

The Rocky Patel name should be familiar to all premium-cigar aficionados. The company’s well-earned status as creator of some of the highest-rated cigars comes from their commitment to artistry and high quality. In 2003 Rakesh “Rocky” Patel launched the Vintage Series 1990 and 1992 cigars. The Series received "Best of the Best” from the 2004 Robb Report, a luxury lifestyle magazine. The Vintage 1990 Robusto was rated 92 by Cigar Aficionado Magazine and listed twice in their “Top 25 Cigars of the Year”. Rocky Patel’s Vintage 1990 Robusto is a premium cigar worthy of its price.
The Vintage 1990 is a blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican Ligero long leaf with the key ingredient being the aged 12 year Honduran Broadleaf Maduro wrapper creating a medium-bodied cigar with tantalizing smooth, complex flavors. The attractive box-pressed Vintage 1990 Robusto has nutty earthiness, notes of espresso, cocoa and cedar with sweet caramel essence.
The cigar is mild enough for novice smokers or for those that haven’t had much to eat beforehand. I recommend pairing this cigar with a drink in hand. This would go very good with a malty type beer, medium bodied red wine, or coffee.
After a light meal, I followed up with my Vintage 1990 cigar and an Innis & Gunn Brewery seasonal Frank and Sense Golden Ale. The luscious malts provide buttery toasted notes, and some red fruit. It’s a creamy pale ale, balanced and warming, perfect for pairing with the Rocky Vintage 1990 on a chilly night. Enjoy the festivities!
