The classic Oliva Serie O is what put the Oliva Cigar Company in the tobacco world spotlight. The Oliva family takes pride in their heritage creating high end Puros in the traditional Cuban-style making their cigars the most coveted in the world. With a ‘94’ rating, Cigar Aficionado named the Oliva Serie O Puro Maduro one of the “Top 25 Cigars”. If this is your first Oliva experience you will be pleasantly astounded.
The Serie O is a Nicaraguan Puro in the Cuban tradition, featuring a dark Maduro Nicaraguan Habano-seed wrapper, binder and filler gown in Esteli, Condega and Jalapa Valley.
The thicker Maduro Habano should be aged longer than other cigars with an optimum 3 to 7 years in your humidor. Puros in general should reach humidity levels of 70-80% to maintain the natural oils.
The profile of the Oliva Serie O displays an intense and complex profile. The blending notes of rich cedar, spice and hints of cocoa and cherries. The medium bodied smoke is a touch salty and has an earthy, nutty flavor.
On a rainy Sunday afternoon I was going through my extensive collection of vinyl and came across Tito Puente’s 1958 “Dance Mania”. I decided to give it a spin in chance to perk up my dreary mood. Personally I like to choose the appropriate cigar while listening to a certain genre of music. That day I thought the Oliva Serie O was the perfect fit with Tito’s upbeat percussion. The Cuban flavors of both uplifted spirits 100%.
