A few years ago the Oliva Cigar Company wanted to reach a demographic that preferred a milder cigar. Their creation is the Connecticut Reserve series which was added to Oliva’s already stellar line up of full bodied cigars. Oliva prides itself by using only the highest quality tobacco leaf and wrappers. The company provides an array of cigars that are affordable but of award winning caliber.

The blend of Cuban-seed Nicaraguan long fillers and Nicaraguan binders is finished with an exceptional Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper leaf. The combination provides a mellower, relaxing smoking experience. The wrapper is smooth and velvety. Although described as mild bodied the Oliva Connecticut Reserve Robusto is packed with intriguing flavors. Upon lighting one will note dynamic flavors of coffee, vanilla and a punch of Nicaraguan tobacco. After a few minutes there are hints of pepper, spice and wood. The smoke is billowy and creamy and remains smooth to the end.

Since it is milder than other Oliva’s, this is the perfect cigar for the morning smoker. Enjoy a Connecticut Reserve with a cup of rich coffee while you read your Sunday paper. The cigar also makes a good companion to a slightly bitter beer full of toasty barley flavor such as an India pale ale. The Offshoot Beer Company’s Fashionably Late is less bitter than most IPAs making it a good fit with a Connecticut Reserve.
