The handmade Tobacos Baez Don Pepin Garcia's My Father Tabacalera in Nicaragua is a mix of filler tobaccos named for Baez, the Cuban city where he was born. The inexpensive puros are a blend of 70% Cuban-seed Nicaraguan long filler, 30% short filler, and wrapped in Nicaraguan Habano wrappers. My Trip to Cuba- Part Tres
I decided to take a private day tour of the valley of Viñales. Included in the tour was a trip to a non-touristy traditional tobacco farm where I learned about the real lives of the tobacco farmers, their traditions and customs, the cultivation of the leaves and the manufacturing of the cigars, among other things. Then I was off to a tobacco sorting place where only women classified the leaves according to the size and the quality, besides the fermentation, drying process and packing. The tour concluded with an organic lunch at Finca Agroecologica El Paraiso with the best views in Vinales affordable from a large terrace . They literally brought out about 15 plates of food from organic vegetables and fruits grown in their onsite garden, a soup, and the main dish: Snapper Veracruzana - grilled snapper with pickled heirloom tomatoes, capers and olive escabeche. It was scrumptious and so fulfilling I skipped dinner that night. But I still have not had an authentic Cuban sandwich. Maybe tomorrow. After a few cigars....
