- Named for the cigar-smoking, celebrated American novelist, the Hemingway series by Arturo Fuente Cigars has become one of the most popular All Figurado cigar lines in the entire world. Finely crafted with aged Dominican filler tobaccos, a Dominican binder and African Cameroon wrappers, the Between the Lines Figurado adds a barber pole layering of silky Connecticut Shade to the wrap. Very nice!

According to Vitolas.net, the Gran Reserva Hemingway Between the Lines was originally requested by Cynthia Fuente, “The First Lady of Cigars” who “wanted a cigar that wasn’t too heavy but still had an enjoyable smoking profile.” And everyone in the cigar industry thanks you. In the 1960s it was the norm to have women in the cigar industry, especially in the area of West Tampa and Ybor City. Immigrants who came from Cuba worked in the factories and mastered the art of cigar rolling. Today the tradition continues and there are women who are revered for their masterful rolling techniques.
The intriguing look of the Gran Reserva Hemingway Between the Lines is enough to entice the most discriminating cigar smoker. The barber-pole shape and nipple at the end screams “I am one sexy cigar!”
The Connecticut Shade, Broadleaf Maduro and Dominican Hemingway blend are a match made in heaven. Pre-smoke, the wrapper has an essence of honey and the longer my stogie rested out of the cellophane wrapper the sweeter the smell. The addictive flavors of vanilla, caramel, and mocha are reminiscent of birthday cake gone wild. The longer I smoked this beauty the more complex it became. The smoke became toastier and more earthy with even more intense flavors of nuts, coffee and chocolate. The finish is complete with a grassy hay essence.
Gran Reserva Hemingway Between the Lines does not cry for a pairing but if you prefer to abide, scotch would be your way to go. Auchentoshan, a 12 year old from the soft rolling hills of the Scottish lowlands, has an essence of honeysuckle and meadow flowers. A fabulous Scotch to go with one helluva cigar!
