If you opened a box of these under poor light, you might mistake them for their Classic line cousins.  Indeed, the box is the same.  The band is the same understated band, telling you that the cigar is imported, it is handmade, and it is a product that Ashton stands behind.  However, these are no ordinary cigars from the Ashton Classic range, as becomes apparent when you first light one up.

Ashton Aged Maduro cigars, similar to the Ashton Classic cigars, are made by hand in the Dominican Republic at the Arturo Fuente factory.  Like the Ashton Classic, the Ashton Aged Maduro Pyramid is a cigar born of the minds of Robert Levin and Carlos Fuente Sr., one with an eye for what the market needed, the other with an eye for how to produce and select the right tobacco for the job.  However, that is where the similarities between the two cigars end.

The wrapper for the Ashton Aged Maduro line is a sweet Maduro wrapper, as the name will suggest, a Dominican wrapper with a bit of oiliness to it to accentuate the flavor and help along the fermentation. This choice of wrapper helps to ensure that there will be adequate fermentation of the tobacco used in the cigar as filler, the Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco that will give the cigar its flavor. This medium-bodied Maduro cigar, the Ashton Aged Maduro Pyramid gives off notes of chocolate and coffee with a mildly sweet taste and a mellow feeling tone throughout the cigar.  If you’re looking for a fantastic cigar to pair with a dessert, especially a dessert coffee or a chocolate cake of some sort, you will be hard pressed to find it a better partner.
