Punch is an interesting cigar company. When it was founded, it had a particular interest in servicing the European market, but was most targeted at the British market. Because of this, they were making cigars that were designed for that market and their concept of British taste, and Punch was making money hand over fist in England. For a time, they were the best-selling brand in England.
Of course, then came the Cuban revolution, which, as it had done to so many things and people, ruined everything. The Cuban government nationalized the better-known names in Cuban tobacco, then they put the rest out of business and took over their facilities and fields to grow the cigar tobacco for their other brands. In fact, in the midst of all this destruction, the only brand that Cuba ever actually created was Cohiba.
So where is Punch now? Well, they’re operating outside of Cuba, and they are reviving many of their old lines, and one of the lines that they’ve brought back is the Punch EMS line. What does the EMS in the name stand for? English Market Selection, of course, meaning the cigars that they were going to send to England, the market that they most desired to make their money in. So, if you’re looking for a good cigar that you will love, Punch EMS line has a nice selection, in other words.
The Punch EMS uses a combination of tobaccos from Nicaragua, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic, blending a medium-strength cigar that you will love sampling. Trust me, this is a cigar that you will want to try.
