A good cigar company makes good cigars, and can make them consistently. A great cigar company isn’t afraid to do a little bit of experimenting in order to be able to make a new and exciting cigar that people will love, though. It takes a lot of bravery for a company to experiment like this; they can fail, of course, but far greater a fear is that they will end up not just failing, but wasting a crop and losing money in doing so. This is the story of how Lot 23 Maduros came into being.
Nick Perdomo had an idea about how to grow some tobacco in Nicaragua, and he chose a specific lot of land for his project, one that would become known as ‘Lot 23’, from which the cigar derives its name. The tobacco was harvested, aged, fermented, and blended, as is normal with such tobacco, but strangely when foreign tobaccos were introduced the blend was less than flavorful. Not wanting to waste more tobacco, Nick decided to just blend the tobacco from Lot 23 together, and found that the result was a peppery cigar that was pleasant. Thus the Lot 23 was born.
They’re a great cigar, one made with a dark and oily Maduro wrapper, into which is placed a blend of tobacco from the fine tobaccos at Lot 23. The cigar has a deep earthy flavor with notes of pepper, and the best thing about the cigar is that it is affordable enough that enjoying 3 in a sitting is not out of the question. In fact, whether you manage to find them at a cigar shop online or a brick and mortar store, you’re going to find that a box of 24 is easily affordable. A great cigar at a great price, what more could you want?
