The cigar is named after the Oliva family’s patriarch Melanio Oliva who began farming tobacco in his native Cuba in 1886. The heirs of Melanio created the Nicaraguan-based Oliva Cigar Company in 1995 with the premise of producing high quality and affordable cigars . The Oliva Serie V Melanio Figurado was named number one “Cigar of the Year 2014” by Cigar Aficionado magazine and received an epic ‘96’ rating.

The Oliva Serie V Melanio consists of Ecuadorian-grown Sumatra and Oliva traditional Cuban-style long leaf ligeros from the Nicaraguan regions of Esteli, Condega with emphasis on the Jalapa Valley tobacco. Carefully aged, the prized Jalapa leaves achieve more unique flavor and aroma than other tobacco. The dark leaf is rich, thick, oily, and perfect in appearance.

The Serie V Melanio is full-bodied and powerful with unique touches of black pepper, yeasty sourdough bread, and dark bitter chocolate. Hints of coffee and cream and buttered toast are apparent.
