  • The Alec Bradley Tempus Terra Nova Nicaragua is a true gem of a cigar. As Cigar Aficionado has noted: "There's a bit of an oily gleam to the wrapper of this dark, reddish-brown cigar. It's a toasty smoke accentuated by nutty notes and a sweet, caramel finish."

Alec Bradley did not come into life fully formed, a company with money to burn and with tobacco fields and stores a-plenty. No, the truth is that they began life as so many businesses do, working in small quantities. In this case, Alec Bradley was a boutique maker of cigars, slowly making great cigars for sale around the country. Eventually, they made a few cigars that managed to get them some notice, and now they’re everywhere.

One of the first cigars that got them real notice was a lovely cigar that received a 94 rating from cigar reviewers, which is a great score for a large company, let alone for a smaller business making cigars. This cigar was known as the Tempus, and they made a few variants. They made the usual line, of course, and they made a Maduro line, because you cannot get away with NOT making a great Maduro line, and they made a Nicaraguan line.

We’re here to talk about the Nicaraguan Tempus, a Nica Puro that utilizes only tobacco from the lovely land of Nicaragua. The cigar begins with a premium wrapper from Jalapa, then combines that wrapper with the blend of three great tobaccos from Jalapa, Condega, and Esteli, producing a fine cigar. This results in a medium bodied cigar with hints of earth, leather, spice, and cedar, a cigar that you can enjoy again and again.
