With an ornate band letting you know that these cigars are no ordinary Ashton, the Cabinet No. 6 line is a fantastic cigar, and being able to enjoy 25 of them is a real treat.
The Ashton brand was born out of a collaboration between two people. The first is a man who has been in the cigar game from childhood, the man whose father, Arturo Fuente, created a cigar company that still produces some of the greatest cigars of our times. On the other hand was Robert Levin, a man who had been a successful tobacconist for quite some time. Robert approached Carlos with an idea for a cigar, one that would be approachable, easy to smoke, and one that would appeal to the customers who shopped at his store, and the Ashton brand was born in the 1990s from these discussions.
The Ashton Cabinet line is the first ‘super premium’ line of cigars that Ashton produced, although they have produced more since then, like the ESG and VSG lines. The big difference between the Cabinet and Classic lines is that the tobacco used in the cabinet line has more age to it, bringing out the unique aroma and flavor that you get from tobacco harvested in the Dominican Republic that has been patiently aged. The tobacco is wrapped in a Connecticut shade wrapper by hand, resulting in a well-packed cigar with a slightly sweet smell to it that looks a lot like the Classic line, though it has a very different taste. The flavor is one of nuttiness with a hint of wood to it, and the cigar is the very definition of ‘creamy’. The final third of the cigar leaves you with an oaken and peppery taste, one that lingers to remind you of the cigar you had.
This is not a cigar for every day, but if you’re willing to put in the work to take care of this box of 25, you will find that you are going to be extremely happy with it, and with having plenty that you can enjoy at your leisure.
