Perla Del Mar was originally a Cuban brand and literally means “Pearl of the Sea”. Story has it that early explorers who landed in Cuba made the discovery of a golden leaf, which they named Perla del Mar. From this fable, this high quality cigar brand was born.
Introduced by JC Newman in 2012 the Perla Del Mar series are made in the same boutique factory as the highly-rated Brick House and El Baton cigars.
Upon opening my box of Perla Del Mar “M” I was hit with an aroma of barnyard hay. A genuinely silky Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper encases the 3 year old aged Nicaraguan binder and filler from Pueblo Nuevo, La Reina, Condega and Jalapa. The blend creates a deep flavor at an affordable price. The boxed pressed “M” Natural is mellow with complex notes of lush cocoa, nuts, and caramel.
On a river cruise on the Mississippi I shared one of my “M”s with a fellow passenger. He was immediately surprised by the smoothness and creaminess and even more impressed by the price. That day on the lazy river we told fish stories and enjoyed glasses of Sazerac cocktails.
