Contrary to popular belief, the band on the Diamond Crown Julius Caesar is not the Roman emperor but the likeness of Julius Caesar (J.C.) Newman, the founder of the J.C. Newman Cigar Company. Although there is no relation, both Julius Caesars have created an empire. The Diamond Crown was rolled out in 2010 to honor the patriarch. The hand rolled small batches are produced by Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic. Cigar Aficionado gave the Diamond Crown Julius Caesar a 93 rating and crowned # 14 cigar in 2014... Not bad.
The beautiful Ecuadorian Habano seed wrapper is a dark coffee brown and oily. Aged for 5 years, the Dominican tobaccos create distinct flavors of espresso, cedar, spice and honey. The smoke is woody and sweet and has a savory finish.

I took my Diamond Crown Julius Caesar on a fishing day trip. The short, fat Robusto was a good choice since the day consisted of a lot of gorging on various oysters and hors doevres. Being a dorky cigar aficionado and foody, I paired the oysters with a Bloody Caesar in honor of the late great J.C.Newman.
3 tablespoons plus 1/2 teaspoon celery salt, divided
1 Tablespoon Old Bay Seasoning
24 ounces Clamato juice
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1 teaspoon freshly grated, or bottled horseradish (optional)
6 ounces vodka
4 Lemon wedges
24 Shucked Oyster
Place 3 tablespoons celery salt in a thin layer in a small dish or shallow bowl. Take empty serving glasses and moisten their rims with a lime wedge. Dip rims in celery salt, Old Bay may be substituted to coat. Shake off excess. In a pitcher, mix Clamato juice, Worcestershire, hot pepper sauce, pepper, remaining celery salt, Old Bay, horseradish and vodka. Stir. Pour into glasses over ice. Garnish with lemon and oysters. Awesome!!!
