When asked what 858 meant Carlos Fuente, Sr. responded:
“My father showed me how to blend the tobaccos into a shape which later became known as the Flor Fina 858. And when my father passed away at the age of 85, as a way of honoring him and as a means of expressing our eternal love for him, we called it 858 so that the number would be legible from both directions. It became very well accepted almost immediately. Since he was instrumental in originating this cigar, I am sure he would be delighted to know that the 858 is still our largest selling shape.”
Another great find at elcigarshop.com! For the low price and high quality, this is my new go to cigar.
Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva Flor Fina 858 Maduro is one of my favorite cigars in the world. The 858 Flor Fina Maduro is a perfectly aged dark brown Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper that's naturally sweet with pure Dominican filler and binder. The smoke is well-balanced and mild with notes of Arturo Fuente’s signature cedar and cocoa. Sweet and spicy at the same time, there are also hints of citrus. Like all Arturo Fuentes, the 858 has a nice and even burn and the white ash holds steady.
Now for an explanation of “Flor Fina”; Cuban tradition demands the quality grade of the cigars be marked on the box. Flor Fina is by definition in cigar making “first grade”. Yes, indeed.
