EP Carrillo has made a few great cigars over the course of their almost decade of being open making their own line of cigars, and few are as sought after as their limited runs. Indeed, the short run of the E.P. Carrillo 5 Year Anniversary Double Robusto resulted in about 3,000 boxes being made, which means that there are about 30,000 of the cigars out and about in the market. Because EP Carrillo was not a well-known name when they released their five-year boxes, there are still quite a few of the cigars out on the market. But they are rapidly disappearing now.
A five-year anniversary for a small business is a great cause for celebration. For most businesses, the five-year anniversary is when the business begins to turn a profit and become profitable, and this is especially true for small businesses that require such an investment in equipment and spoil-able materials as the cigar industry.
So how good are these cigars? Well, they’re medium-full in body, as are most of the cigars that EP Carrillo makes. The wrapper is Ecuadorian Sumatra, the binder is Ecuadorian Corojo ’99, and the filler is Nicaraguan, grown in the three premium regions in Nicaragua for growing cigar tobacco (Jalapa, Condega, and Esteli). These parts combine to leave you with a cigar that is delicious and peppery, with hints of earth, leather, and wood to it. It’s a great cigar, and one that you should be sure to give a chance.
