Formerly of famed El Titan de Bronze Cigar factory, master cigar blender Willy Herrera, now of Drew Estate, has created the popular namesake Herrera Estelí line of cigars. The Cuban Style cigar with a retro band is a fine tribute to the island nation of Cuba.
Made with an Ecuadoran Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan long filler and Honduran binder, this medium to full bodied smoke is bold without being overpowering. The sexy cigar has a smooth caramel colored wrapper with excellent construction.
Pre-lit, aromas of spice, ginger and cedar are apparent. After lighting this beauty, the Herrera Estelí Robusto Extra is full of silky flavors of cream, toasted almonds and spice. A sweet finish completes the experience. This well balanced blend has the right mixture of sweet and spicy. If you’re a cigar snob like me, you’ll want to add Herrera Estelí Robusto Extra to your humidor.
To reach the Herrera Estelí Robusto’ s full rich potential, pair the cigar with a cream soda, root beer or even better and my personal favorite, birch beer. It may seem like an odd combination but the spicy, sweet and woodsy flavors compliment those of the stogie. In business since 1936, Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer is one of the oldest soft drinks in the United States. Most common in Pennsylvania and bordering states, the classic soda's minty flavors are as distinctively unique as those of Herrera Estelí cigars. There’s a bit of nostalgia of the pairing between cigar and birch beer. I think Willy Herrera would approve.
